It seems that the trends we've been watching are continuing. Median price is still dropping but so far this month it's seen double digits compared to the single digits last month. Sales are moving right along in keeping with that trend that we've been having for the last year plus.
The disaster in Japan may cut into out sales from that country. I've had a few clients from the Kyoto region in the past. Over all though, the country is still in good shape and unaffected by the quake and ensuing tsunami. I believe that the whole country is going to be involved to one degree or another in helping with the recovery, however. That much devastation can't go unnoticed in a country as small as Japan. It is so awe inspiring and saddening to see damage on that scale; it's hard to imagine the suffering that's going on there.
Because of the overall effect on the country with companies like Toyota, Honda, and other major corporations shutting down until things are under control again are bound to have a huge effect on the economy of the country. Such a disaster as this could bankrupt a lesser economic power.
I don't expect to see much interest in Hawaii from Japan for a while. I suspect they will be putting all their combined energy into putting their country back together again. A country like Japan that is so cohesive and tends to act as one body, one organism will be concentrating on their problems for some time to come. The rebuilding of Japan will be an interesting lesson for all of us. Never has such a disaster hit a first world country like this has. The recovery will be a study in determination.
